Elizabeth Mannshardt

Dr. Elizabeth Mannshardt works for the National Science Foundation (Dr. Mannshardt is serving in her personal capacity) and is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Statistics at North Carolina State University. Prior, Dr. Mannshardt served as the Acting Director of the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Information Access and Analytic Services Division and formerly as a Statistician the US Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards. Her work as Lead Statistician on the cross-agency Environmental Sensors project developed a conditional probability approach for relating short-term sensor readings to longer-term averages used for health effect considerations as well as for messaging considerations for public communication, understanding, and education. As Team Lead for the Data Fusion Team, Dr. Mannshardt led research and development of data fusion methodology and applications, including novel methodological applications under different spatial and temporal considerations, incorporation of monitoring data from alternative networks, and preliminary exploration to improve performance of the spatial range parameter of hybrid integrations. 

Dr. Mannshardt is a Fellow of the American Statistical Association. She currently serves as Vice Chair of ASA’s Membership Council and was 2022 Chair of ASA’s Section on Statistics and the Environment. She has served as Chair of ASA’s Government Statistics Section and President of ASA’s North Carolina Chapter. Prior to joining EPA, Dr. Mannshardt held two National Science Foundation Postdoctoral Fellowships and was a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistical Science at Duke University. Dr. Mannshardt earned her PhD in Statistics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
